Spoken Presentation

In today’s computer class you should:

1. Choose a company for your presentation.

2. Take a piece of paper from the box – this will tell you the audience for your presentation.

3. Post the name of your company and your audience in the discussion tab for your class.
Make sure you can find information on the company before you choose.
Make sure no other student has the same company with the same audience.

4. Write the plan for your presentation. You must give your plan to your teacher by the end of Week 6. Your plan should include:

The name of the company
Your audience
An outline of your talk:
Introduction – Greetings; Welcome; Introduce yourself; What you are going to talk about in your presentation
Body – The different parts of your talk. One part of your talk must include a short history of the company. The other parts will depend on your audience.
Conclusion – Thank the audience; answer any questions.

Your plan is a short outline of your talk. You can change your plan at any time. You can type it on Microsoft Word or hand write it.

5. Now you are ready to research your company and begin writing your presentation.
You should do this using English websites.

Download these documents to help you with the correct spoken language and body language used in presentations:

You should have at least your introduction finished by Wk 7 when we will practice this part of the presentation in class.

Remember to keep it simple. Don’t copy and paste from the website – use your own words! Use spoken English – don’t just memorise and recite written English.

Here are two links that may be helpful for your research:

www.google.com use the English version, not the Chinese version.
In the search box type the name of your company.
Most company websites have a link to an “About” page that gives basic information.

www.thetimes100.co.uk Click on the "companies" tab and you can find lots of information about different companies.

Remember to write down the address of any websites you use so that you can cite them.
